![]() ![]() The shifting of the last rendered frame relative to user input also seems like it would work fine even if not used with a first-person perspective.īut again, I could be misunderstanding how this all works. So I think the object slicing that happens to make async reprojection work would potentially work in these situations as well. While the player's camera movement doesn't work the same way as it would in an FPS, it's still relatively predictable-the next frame is most likely to be moved to the left, right, up, down, or some combination thereof, but will probably be largely similar to what's already on the screen. For example, let's say we're talking about an RTS game or an ARPG like Diablo. If I understand the video correctly (and I very well might not have), it seems like this could still work for non-first-person perspectives, as long as the change from frame to frame is predictable to an extent. Steam Deck has done a great job so far running almost all games but it couldn't quite handle Returnal, so demanding current gen games may require better hardware. If you want to play current gen AAA games until the end of the console generation then I'd wait for an upgraded model with more performance. So, if you don't want to wait that long and your goal is to play games currently available on Steam and future AA and indie titles, I'd say it's definitely worth it. ![]() ![]() Based on that (and the fact that the current model is only now being shipped in several asian countries and still isn't available in a lot of regions) my personal estimate is that we are at least two years away from any new model. ![]() In the last interview with Valve's people it was suggested that they won't release a more performant device any time soon, they are happy with the performance and if they do release an upgraded version they'd likely target improvements in screen quality and battery life. Valve hasn't said anything concrete about their release plans. ![]()
